Former Michigan State forward gets NBA Summer League shot

Frankie Fidler will get a shot to play at the highest level.

The former Michigan State forward landed a spot on the Milwaukee Bucks Summer League team, which was announced Friday night.

Fidler is the second Spartan who went undrafted last month to earn a spot in the Summer League, following guard Jaden Akins with the Magic. Jase Richardson was Michigan State’s lone player selected in the NBA draft, going No. 25 overall to Orlando.

In his lone season with the Spartans, Fidler averaged 7.0 points and 3.3 rebounds while shooting just 19.7 percent (13-for-66) from 3-point range. The Bucks begin Summer League play on Thursday in Las Vegas.

Fidler, 6-foot-7 and 217 pounds, spent three seasons at Omaha and averaged 20.1 points as a junior before transferring to Michigan State. It was a rough transition as Fidler struggled with his shot, lost his starting spot in November and played only single-digit minutes a handful of games.

Despite having his confidence tested, Fidler provided big plays down the stretch at times for the Spartans, who won a Big Ten title before reaching the Elite Eight. He scored 10 off the bench to spark a second-round win against New Mexico and had nine points and five rebounds in a season-ending loss to Auburn.
