Giannis Antetokounmpo trade update: New timeline emerges on his future

Giannis Antetokounmpo is reportedly weighing his future in Milwaukee and isn't expected to make a decision about staying or leaving until late summer or September.

Despite spending all 12 seasons of his career with the Milwaukee Bucks, winning an NBA championship in 2021 and two MVP awards, Giannis Antetokounmpo's future with the team remains uncertain.

For the first time, he is reportedly exploring other options. Still, conflicting reports are suggesting that he ultimately wants to stay in Wisconsin, which, for now, seems the more likely scenario.

According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, however, nothing has been decided yet.

"My sense is, just from conversations around the league, I don't think anything will be decided on his end until August or September," Shelburne said on ESPN's NBA Today. "Big deals or anything like that—whether he goes or stays—that kind of decision won't come until later in the summer."

A recent report indicated that Antetokounmpo wasn't particularly happy with how Milwaukee handled waiving and stretching the injured Damian Lillard's contract to add Myles Turner to the roster.

Giannis is under contract with the Bucks through the 2026–27 season and holds a $62 million player option for 2027–28. His deal does not include a no-trade clause.
