Manchester United’s first game of the pre-season is inching closer, and that means the urgency for Ruben Amorim to get his squad in order has begun.
The first sign of that urgency came when Man Utd asked five players not to return with the rest of the squad for pre-season.
The next came when Matheus Cunha’s shirt number was confirmed, and the next step will be to secure Bryan Mbeumo before the first game of the pre-season.
In the meantime, Ruben Amorim will have more than just Cunha as a new face for the pre-season, as United announced the signing of Diego Leon from Cerro Porteno.

Cerro Porteno sends Diego Leon message, Man Utd react
Diego Leon was ‘signed’ in January by United, but they had to wait until the player turned 18 to confirm the move, which they have done now.
Leon looks like a mentality monster from his first words at Man Utd, and the message Cerro Porteno, his previous club, sent before United’s confirmation reaffirmed that belief.
Now that United have announced Leon’s signing, Porteno sent another message to the prodigious left-back in three simple words.
Tagging Leon in their post, the Paraguayan club wrote, “Living a dream”, probably borrowing from Old Trafford’s moniker of “The Theatre of Dreams”.

Positive signs about Diego Leon’s mentality
Between his own promise before arriving at United, and the way Cerro Porteno have celebrated his move, there are numerous positive signs about Leon’s mentality.
The player’s ability and potential have never been in doubt since United went above and beyond to sign Leon ahead of the competition.
The next step would have always been to gauge his mentality, since that is half the battle to succeed in a club as scrutinised as Man Utd.
Leon looks to be made of the right stuff to tackle that challenge head-on instead of cowering under it, which means Amorim could have an unexpected first-team player sooner than many expect.
