Leeds United are ready to splash the cash on Nikola Krstovic.

The Montenegrin forward had a breakthrough season with Lecce and is available for an estimated £25.8million.

Krstovic would add some much-needed firepower to the Leeds attack, as they look to build a team capable of thriving in the Premier League.

There is competition to sign the striker though. Roma are also looking to add him to their ranks.

And Krstovic has now seemingly made up his mind about his future after Leeds’ bid for him.

Leeds target Krstovic has his heart set on Roma

It’s not good news for Daniel Farke and Leeds. Krstovic would prefer a move to Rome over a spell in Yorkshire.

RomaPress reports that Krstovic has his heart set on playing for the Giallorossi, so they would be in pole position if they want to stump up the £25.8m for his signature.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are in desperate need of strikers, having lost Tammy Abraham and Eldor Shomurodov this summer. And it looks like Krstovic is going to do whatever he can to ensure this transfer happens.

So, it would appear as if Leeds may now need to set their sights elsewhere.

Leeds have started the transfer window well, but strikers are needed

It might not be easy to tempt Europe’s biggest up-and-coming superstars to Leeds, especially when glamorous clubs like Roma also want them, but Farke is giving it a good go.

Leeds have already signed Lukas Nmecha, Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw in a transfer window that’s generally moving slower than usual.

That’s a great start, but more transfers will be needed to give the Whites a chance of survival in the Premier League.

Leeds fans will be pleased about the level of ambition shown in the transfer market, especially when it comes to signing strikers. A ruthless goalscorer can often be the difference between relegation and survival, and it seems the 49ers are ready to splash the cash on one.

Krstovic looked like he could be that difference-maker in Serie A. However, you’d have to be a real optimist to suggest that Leeds could still get him now.
