Everton are on the verge of completing another transfer.

The Blues are in need of significant reinforcements this summer in several positions and have only brought in Carlos Alcaraz so far.

They have signed Jarrad Branthwaite and Michael Keane to new deals but there is still a lot of work for the Friedkin Group to do this summer.

They could be about to get one over on their Premier League rivals.

Everton set to sign Barry and hand rivals a blow

Everton look set to sign Thierno Barry from Villarreal to bolster their forward line.

A report from the Sunday Mirror (page 77, 6 July) claims that the deal to sign Barry is a “major coup” for Moyes and could hamper Wolves and West Ham’s plans to bring in a striker of their own.

It states that the Yellow Submarine plans to replace the French attacker with Evan Guessand, who is attracting interest from the Hammers and the Old Gold.

Barry could be a hit for Everton

Moyes is particularly desperate for attacking reinforcements, with Beto the only senior attacker in the squad after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s departure at the end of his contract.

Barry notched 11 goals and five assists in his first season in La Liga after joining from FC Basel in August 2024, which is a solid return for a player who has joined a new league.

The 22-year-old is a pacey attacker, strong in the air and can carry the ball to bring his teammates into play, exactly what the Scotsman demands from his front men.

The demands on a forward at the Hill Dickinson Stadium will be tough, but given how quickly the France U21 European Championships star adapted to Spanish football, it is an encouraging sign for the Toffees.

It would be a brilliant addition for the Blues, and the fact that it could hinder their rivals’ business just makes it that little bit sweeter.

There is still more top-quality signings needed if the Merseysiders are to qualify for Europe next season, which is Moyes’ ultimate ambition, but it is an exciting start to the summer.
