Everton have a major rebuild on their hands this summer.

David Moyes is set to be backed by the Friedkin Group to overhaul his squad ahead of the new season as he looks to qualify for Europe.

The Toffees have already confirmed that Jarrad Branthwaite and Michael Keane have signed new contracts, and Carlos Alcaraz has joined on a permanent deal after his loan spell finished but more business is needed.

However, keeping their most promising youth talents is another challenge for the Scotsman this summer with the likes of Manchester City often poaching the country’s best.

Everton Academy took to Instagram (5 July) to confirm that Davis had signed his first professional deal with the Blues, saying: “Defender Luca Davis has signed his first professional contract with Everton.

“Congratulations, Luca.”

Everton can utilise Davis in the future

The Blues are well stocked at centre-back at the moment, with the likes of Keane, Branthwaite and James Tarkowski in the squad.

However, there is always room for a youngster to break into the team, and Davis will fancy his chances of doing so in the next few years.

The 18-year-old has featured 36 times in the U18 Premier League, notching one goal and two assists from defence in his career in the Toffees’ youth ranks.

He played in the Premier League 2 playoff against Manchester United and will hope to follow the path of Branthwaite, who has emerged as a star for the Blues in recent years, recently being linked with the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham.

The Carlisle-born defender joined the Toffees in 2020 and went on loan with Blackburn and PSV Eindhoven before becoming a key player for the 1995 FA Cup winners.

The Manchester-born defender has been with the Merseysiders since the age of 13, joining from Bury’s academy and will hope to one day grace the pitch at the new stadium as a part of the first-team squad.

It remains to be seen whether he can do that, but it is an encouraging sign that he has signed a professional deal to remain in L4 until at least 2027.
