Report: Leeds preparing bid to sign ‘unstoppable’ striker after Muniz deal collapses

Leeds United are reportedly plotting a move for Norwich City striker Josh Sargent after failing to sign Fulham's Rodrigo Muniz.

French journalist Sebastian Vidal reports that the Peacocks are set to make a move for the American forward, who scored 15 goals in 32 EFL Championship games last season. They are keen on bolstering Daniel Farke's attack and adding a new number nine to his squad ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Muniz was their top target, and the 49ers were working on a deal but have seemingly admitted defeat in pursuit of the Fulham frontman. This comes amid Tottenham Hotspur reportedly preparing to make a £32m offer for the Brazilian.

Leeds are turning their attention to Sargent and are contemplating trying to reunite the 25-year-old with his former Norwich boss Farke. Vidal wrote on X

"Leeds are preparing a summer move for Josh Sargent (48 goals for Norwich) Daniel Farke, who worked with him before, is a big admirer. After missing out on Muniz, Leeds want a reliable striker to make their Premier League return count."

Sargent, dubbed "unstoppable", has been at Norwich since 2021 and has become a key man at Carrow Road, especially last season. He finished fourth in the Championship goalscoring ranks, four shy of top scorer Joel Piroe, with whom he could be battling it out for the number nine role at Elland Road.

Farke was in charge of the Canaries when Sargent broke into their first team and he still rates the USA international highly. He called him a "top striker" back in January and could come calling for the former Werder Bremen frontman this summer.

Sargent has reportedly already been the subject of an approach from Leeds regarding a potential £16.8m deal, per Sky Sport. Everton's Beto is another option, although he'll cost more than the American after an impressive run under David Moyes at the end of last season.
