Graham Potter is pushing to sign a new goalkeeper this summer to help end West Ham’s defensive woes.

Alphonse Areola proved to be inconsistent last season, which cost the Hammers multiple points.

On top of this, Lukasz Fabianski has now left West Ham, leaving the London club light in this position.

Therefore, multiple goalkeepers have been linked in recent weeks, with Potter looking at Mads Hermansen.

Now, Zion Suzuki is the latest keeper West Ham have shown interest in after impressing at Parma.

West Ham enquire about Zion Suzuki

As West Ham search for a new keeper, Suzuki is now being considered as an option.

The Japanese international impressed last season and only conceded 53 goals while keeping eight clean sheets in the Serie A.

This helped the Italian club finish 16th in the table and avoid a return to the Serie B.

Parma’s sporting director, Mauro Pederzoli, has previously labelled Suzuki as “world-class for his age” when talking to outlet Tuttomercatoweb (9 July 2024).

Now, according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, page 21 (6 July), West Ham have submitted “enquiries” for Suzuki as they look to find competition for their goalkeeping spot.

Suzuki could be a smart signing from Graham Potter

It is already well-established that West Ham have PSR concerns this transfer window.

This is set to limit the spending power of the London club and could force Potter into a sell-to-buy situation.

With West Ham already having Premier League relegation fears going into the 2025/26 campaign, the Hammers manager is going to have to be smart if he is to strengthen multiple areas.

Compared to stars such as Aaron Ramsdale and Hermansen, Suzuki is likely to cost a lot less despite only being 22 years old.

His experience is also impressive for his age, having been a regular in at both Sint-Truidense and Parma since moving to Europe.

Therefore, if West Ham can get Suzuki over the line, it would no doubt be a smart signing from Potter at the London Stadium.
