West Ham need higher offer – Hammers move forward, on record as rejecting Manchester United and Chelsea

Over the past 24 hours or so there’s been claims West Ham United are in advanced talks to sign Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki. The story is being covered in Italy, although there’s some brakes being applied regarding how far along the transfer road the Hammers actually are.

The 22-year-old signed for Parma in July 2024, and earlier in his career he’d been the subject of interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.

In December of last year, the goalkeeper was directly asked about that interest, and made efforts to further talk it up, giving the impression he turned both Premier League clubs: “ Is it true that I turned down offers from Chelsea and Manchester United? When I was in Japan, the Premier League wanted me, but in Belgium I would have played more.

“I’m happy with my choice. Serie A is known around the world for the quality of its goalkeepers.”

Suzuki moved from Urawa Red Diamonds to Sint-Truiden and that’s where he started catching European attention. Born in New Jersey, the young goalkeeper has represented Japan from U15 to senior level and is now the country’s regular No.1.

He has a contract with Parma lasting until 2029, so West Ham would have to convince the Serie A club over a sale.

Sunday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport puts some brakes on the Hammers claims, reporting ‘there’s been some enquiries’ from the club but not offering any more.

Parma Live mention English claims of a €25m offer from West Ham, but say the figures would ‘certainly’ have to go much higher.
