Report: EFL club agree deal to sign Nottingham Forest player for £5m, but there's a big problem

Nottingham Forest will be looking to reshuffle their squad this summer ahead of the Premier League campaign.

Igor Jesus has checked in at Forest as the first summer recruit, and he will almost certainly be joined by more players.

Forest face a fight to keep hold of Anthony Elanga, who is wanted by Newcastle, but if he does go, significant investment will be made in the squad.

In order to make room for new players, Forest have a clutch of players who they need to offload before the campaign gets underway.

Jota Silva is attracting interest at the moment, and he might not be the only player set to leave Forest this summer.

Wrexham agree Lewis O’Brien deal

Forest have stood firm for as long as possible but now it appears as though Wrexham might be edging closer to getting their man.

According to The Sun, Wrexham and Forest have now agreed on a fee, with the newly promoted Championship side set to complete a real coup.

The club owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are hoping to reach the Premier League and O’Brien would be a big signing in that sense.

MORE FOREST STORIES

Forest signed O’Brien from Huddersfield and it does seem like the Reds are going to make a loss on the player, given that the fee looks to be set at £5 million and not the £10 million which the Reds paid.

It’s claimed that although things are getting closer, there is still a pretty sizeable problem.

O’Brien hasn’t been able to agree on personal terms with Wrexham yet, with their contract offer still some way from what the midfielder would like to earn.

O’Brien needs to leave Forest this summer

It’s a real shame that O’Brien didn’t have a different experience with Forest and he can count himself very unlucky.

The midfielder made a strong start to life at the club but when Steve Cooper left him out of the 25-man squad for the second half of the 2022/23 campaign, the writing was on the wall.

O’Brien is a very capable player, however, and for a club like Wrexham, he would represent a big coup given his credentials in the Championship.

O’Brien only made 14 appearances for Forest in the end and if a deal can be struck for Wrexham to land him, it would be in the best interest of all parties.
