Report: Leeds United to beat Jose Mourinho in race for £8.6m-rated flyer, deal expected soon

Leeds United are closing in on completing a fourth transfer of the summer after deals for Jaka Bijol, Lukas Nmecha and Sebastiaan Bornauw – and they will beat Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce in doing so.

Leeds have already fended off plenty of competition for their three summer signings. The Whites have even confirmed on their website that Leeds beat other sides to the signings of both Nmecha and Bijol.

Adam Underwood remains in the market for plenty more signings, including a new goalkeeper, a left-back, a midfielder, a replacement for Manor Solomon, an attacking midfielder and a starting striker.

Well, one of those positions is about to be filled as Leeds close in on their fourth summer signing, in the form of Lille’s Sweden international Gabriel Gudmundsson. He is expected to arrive in Yorkshire, soon.

Jose Mourinho misses out as Leeds sign Gabriel Gudmundsson

With Gudmundsson entering the final year of his contract with Ligue 1 side Lille, Leeds have targeted the Sweden ace for some time. Now, Graham Smyth says Gudmundsson could even arrive in Leeds today.

Arguably, Gudmundsson is Leeds’ most important signing of the summer, given Leeds lack a left-sided defender after Junior Firpo’s exit. But also, because there has been competition for Lille’s Gudmundsson.

Not least, from Fenerbahce. Turkish outlet Fanatik report that Mourinho’s men were interested in a deal for Gudmundsson with reports of the interest only arising this weekend, suggesting it is ongoing.

How much Lille are requesting to sell Gabriel Gudmundsson

While Leeds have been linked heavily with Gudmundsson throughout the summer window and now look set to get their man, there have been no reports of a transfer fee when it comes to a deal for the Swede.

Of course, it is not expected to be a big fee given his contract situation. Indeed, Leeds will land the ace far below his actual worth given Lille are looking to cash in rather than risk losing Gudmundsson on a free.

The report from Turkey claims Mourinho’s men are eyeing an £8.6m deal for Gudmundsson. However, it appears Leeds are going to get their man as The Whites close in on their fourth signing of the summer.
