Arsenal are holding internal discussions about whether to activate Eberechi Eze’s £68million release clause as they accelerate their summer transfer plans.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Crystal Palace will stand firm on their valuation of the 27-year-old.

The England international’s release clause will expire in the middle of August, before the start of the new Premier League season, and a decision will have to be made before then.

Football Insider revealed on 30 June that Arsenal have enquired about Eze’s availability and have held talks with his representatives over a move.

However, they are not yet sure whether to activate his lofty release clause and will assess alternative transfer targets before making a decision.

Brown told Football Insider on 26 June that Eze won’t leave Palace for less than £68million as Oliver Glasner is keen to keep his best players at the club.

Arsenal set to make Eberechi Eze decision after Arteta reveal

Brown told Football Insider in April that Arsenal “would love” to sign Eze as Mikel Arteta plans to add more drive and creativity to his starting XI.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted the Gunners will weigh up a number of options before making a final decision.

“*Arsenal’s interest in Eze isn’t a surprise,*” he told Football Insider.

“As we’ve said before, he’s a very talented player and any team would love to have somebody of his quality because he can be excellent.

“It’s difficult to know what Arsenal are going to do and where they’re going to look.

“If they want Eze as a left-winger, they should forget about it because that isn’t his position.

“But if they are going to sign Eze, they’ll have to make the decision soon.

“Palace aren’t going to accept less than his release clause, everybody knows that, so it should be a case of they either pay it or they don’t.

“I think Arsenal are looking at a few targets and they need to decide which one they want.

“That will come down to looking at their scouts reports and judging the value for money.

“If any team wants Eze, they’ll have to pay the asking price, and if they don’t they’ll miss out.

“From a Palace point of view, they’ll be happy to keep him if they don’t cough up the money, and I’m sure they’ll have plans in case he does leave.”

Viktor Gyokeres update emerges at the Emirates

Alongside their pursuit of Eze, the Gunners are also closing in on finally securing a new centre-forward which has been a long-term issue for Arteta.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 4 July that Arsenal are closing in on signing Viktor Gyokeres and are confident of getting a deal over the line.

Sources say the striker’s representatives were in Portugal this week for showdown talks with Sporting to try and thrash out an agreement over his exit.

This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 21 June that United have dropped their interest in Gyokeres after he made clear his desire to join Arsenal.
