Transfer state of play as five Nottingham Forest exits on the cards

Nottingham Forest will return for pre-season on Monday with question marks against the futures of several members of Nuno Espirito Santo's squad.

So far this summer, the Reds have done relatively little transfer business - either in or out. But all that will change in the near future as tweaks are made to the dressing room.

As part of Forest’s summer reshuffle, some exits are a given. Below, NottinghamshireLive takes a look at the state of play regarding a few potential departures.

Matt Turner: Admitted after the end of his Crystal Palace loan spell he faced an uncertain future. The American goalkeeper has been clear he wants to play games, and that is not going to happen at Forest.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano previously said a deal, worth €8 million (£6.7m) had been “verbally agreed” with Lyon. However, Turner's proposed switch to France has been thrown into doubt amid off-the-pitch chaos at the French club.

Lewis O’Brien: Has been linked with a number of clubs as he plots his next move. Hull City recently became the latest team added to his list of admirers, joining Valencia, Wrexham and Preston North End in eyeing him up.

Swansea City have already held talks with Forest about potentially re-signing the midfielder after he impressed on loan. Wages could be an issue for the Welsh side, however.

Josh Bowler: Barely played for either Preston or Luton Town during separate loan stints last season. With that in mind, it is perhaps unsurprising there has been relatively little transfer speculation about the winger.

It has been a case of mixed fortunes with a succession of loans since his move to the City Ground in 2022. A permanent switch would suit all parties this time around.

Danilo: The subject of a reported £21m bid from Lyon. But as with Turner, a move to France might not now happen for the 24-year-old.

He does have other interest, though. Besiktas apparently want the midfielder to move to Turkey and are said to have proposed a loan offer while Real Betis are also keen.

Whatever happens, a departure seems likely for the popular Brazilian. Forest will just want to make sure they are not left short of options before anything is sanctioned.

Emmanuel Dennis: So far, it has been relatively quiet regarding potential moves for the attacker. The second half of last season was spent on loan at Blackburn Rovers, where he made just seven appearances.

Had been left out of Forest’s 25-man squad for the first half of the campaign, so there is little chance of him forcing his way into Nuno’s plans. Has just one year left on his contract, which could add to the challenge of finding a buyer.
