Nottingham Forest 'agree' Championship club record transfer - but there's a hitch

Wrexham are reported to have agreed a club-record deal for Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien but, it is claimed, the glamorous Welsh club are “struggling” to meet his salary demands.

The Sun says that the newly-promoted Championship side owned by Hollywood pair Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have “tabled a package” worth up to £5million for the 26-year-old player and Forest are willing to accept that valuation.

But, the report by transfer specialist Alan Nixon says, the Dragons’ terms are “well below” what O’Brien is currently on and the transfer to Wales is “now in doubt.”

O’Brien has experience in both the Premier League and Championship, and spent half of last season on loan at fellow second-tier side Swansea City.

Wrexham were set to battle with Hull City for his signature but the Hull Daily Mail claim the Tigers are set to move on from their pursuit of the sought after midfielder. Another side that has been strongly linked with interest in O’Brien are Birmingham City.

Wrexham have already made two signings since reaching the second tier, signing Ryan Hardie from relegated Plymouth for £825,000, while former Leicester City goalkeeper Danny Ward has joined on a free transfer.
