There are 63 days remaining before the New Orleans Saints open their 2025 regular season at home against the Arizona Cardinals.
The Saints enter their 59th NFL season hoping for vast improvement over their 5-12 record from a year ago. They'll do it with a new head coach on the sidelines in Kellen Moore and several other new faces.
Their is no player on the Saints roster currently wearing number 63. In fact, no one has worn that number for New Orleans since 2018. Here's a look through the nine players that have worn that jersey through franchise history.

Roy Schmidt was the first to suit up in 63 for the Saints, wearing it for the first two years of the team's existence. Schmidt played in 19 games for New Orleans, starting seven of those contests.
Steve Baumgartner was the first New Orleans draft choice and first defensive player to wear 63. A second round pick (50th overall) in the 1973 NFL Draft, Baumgartner played five seasons with the Saints. He appeared in 61 games, recovering 5 fumbles and recording 3.5 sacks over that span.
Barry Bennett followed Baumgartner as a Round 3 choice in the 1978 NFL Draft. Bennett played 50 games over his four years in New Orleans, recording 5 sacks in his time with the team.

Brad Edelman was a second round pick, 30th overall, from the Missouri Tigers by New Orleans in 1982. He'd be a fixture at left guard with the Saints for the next eight seasons.
Edelman played in 90 games for the Saints, starting 87 of those and earning Pro Bowl honors in 1987. One of the more underrated linemen in team history, Edelman is the highest drafted New Orleans player to wear number 63 and also wore it longer than any other player with the franchise.
Since Edelman departed after the 1989 campaign, only four players have worn 63 during a regular season game for the team in the last 35 years. Three of them had it for less than a season, combining for 24 games and two starts.

Wally Williams was the outlier of those four. Williams was a powerful left guard with the Saints for four seasons. In those four years, he started 37 of his 41 game appearances.
Cameron Tom was the last player to wear No. 63 for the Saints in 2018. Tom appeared in 11 games that season, starting one. He returned to New Orleans briefly in 2020, but wore No. 62 during his only game appearance.
