Arsenal's long search for a striker is almost set to come to an end, according to reports - with the Gunners 'getting closer' to landing Viktor Gyokeres to massively boost Mikel Arteta's striking ranks at the Emirates Stadium.
The north London club suffered huge striking woes last season when Gabriel Jesus picked up a season-ending injury back in mid-January, and although there were three weeks left in the transfer market to source a replacement, they failed to do so - paying the ultimate price when Kai Havertz was then ruled out for the majority of the campaign just a week after the deadline.
Report: Arsenal 'Getting Closer' to Landing Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting

That left Mikel Merino as the club's next-best option to lead the line, and although he did well for a midfielder, it was clear that a new, top option would be needed to fire them over the line for the Premier League title in the upcoming season - with talks ongoing for new talismen in the early weeks of the summer.
And with that in mind, the report by Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday afternoon states that Arsenal are now 'getting closer' to the signing of Gyokeres after new rounds of talks with Sporting in the last few hours.
Gyokeres won't return to training at the Primeira Liga champions, where he scored 39 goals in just 33 league games - with the striker fully focused on leaving the club after his incredible season in front of goal in both the domestic competitions and the Champions League, and Arsenal are now advancing to add him to their ranks.
A deal isn't quite done yet for the 'game-changing' star, but discussions are underway and we could soon see the former Brighton starlet pull on the famous red shirt in north London.
Reports elsewhere from David Ornstein have further stated that Gyokeres has agreed on a five-year deal with the Gunners, but until a fee is agreed, the deal won't go anywhere - and once that is done, it's likely to be a formality that he will move to the club.
