Arsenal in ‘advanced talks’ with Sporting to sign Viktor Gyokeres after terms agreed

Arsenal are reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ with Sporting Lisbon to sign Viktor Gyokeres.

The 27-year-old striker has made clear his desire to leave the Portuguese champions and move to Arsenal this summer.

And it appears the saga surrounding his future is nearing its conclusion, with it reported by The Athletic that talks between the two clubs are advanced.

Personal terms are already in place, having previously agreed to a proposed five-year contract, after the former Brighton and Coventry star prioritised a move to Arsenal over interest from Manchester United and other top European clubs.

Gyokeres has scored almost 100 goals in just two years at Sporting and has transformed into one of the most lethal strikers in world football.

Speculation surrounding his future has rumbled on for months, with Arsenal always at the front of the queue as Mikel Arteta looks to eventually sign a top-class No.9.

Reports in Portugal from Maisfutebol say that the deal could reach €80 million (£69 million), which would make him the most expensive Swedish player in history.

Gyokeres' proposed move could surpass the £63million Newcastle paid Real Sociedad for Alexander Isak and Zlatan Ibrahimovic's £57m move from Inter Milan to Barcelona.

Sporting's asking price for their star man has caused confusion and outrage from Gyokeres, with a previously reported agreement between player and club to allow him to leave for less than his £86m release clause rubbished by Sporting president Frederico Varandas.

Gyokeres has since threatened to go on strike to force through a move to the Gunners and told the club he would not forgive them if they priced him out of a dream move to Arsenal in the prime of his career.
