“I can’t lose that defensive drive that will get me on the floor, because there are going to be guys who can score 15, 20 a game. I’m most likely not going to be that guy right now,” James said in an interview. “To get myself on the floor, I’ve got to be a defensive menace.”
The 20-year-old guard showed flashes during his rookie year, splitting time between the NBA and the G-League.
In 27 NBA games, James averaged 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game while shooting 31.3% from the field and 28.1% from three-point range.
However, his time in the G-League painted a different picture. Over 11 games, he averaged 21.9 points, 5.4 assists, and 5.2 rebounds per game.
His shooting numbers were also much stronger — 44.0% from the field and 38.0% from deep.
