Newcastle are working hard to bolster their squad ahead of the new season following their dramatic Champions League qualification on the final day of the season.
The Magpies have been linked with several players, including Burnley’s James Trafford and Nottingham Forest’s Anthony Elanga. TBR Football expects Tottenham to sign both Trafford and Elanga within next week.
Newcastle were also keen on signing Joao Pedro, but Chelsea beat them to his transfer. However, there is another striker who has been linked with a move.

Newcastle in advanced talks to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin
TBR Football previously reported that Newcastle are firmly in the race to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer this summer.
Manager Eddie Howe is a long-time admirer of Calvert-Lewin, and the club are considering offering him a pay-as-you-play style deal.
However, Newcastle are not alone in their pursuit. Manchester United have also been linked with Calvert-Lewin, with recent reports claiming the Red Devils have already contacted Calvert-Lewin to discuss the possibility of a move to Old Trafford.
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey has now revealed that Manchester United are among several clubs to express interest in signing him.
There is also interest from clubs in Major League Soccer, the Saudi Pro League, and elsewhere in the Premier League.
Despite the competition, TBR Football understands that Newcastle have held the most advanced talks with Calvert-Lewin so far.
The Magpies are in the market for a new striker to bolster their attacking depth, even if Callum Wilson signs a new deal to stay at the club, and Calvert-Lewin is being viewed as a strong option to strengthen Howe’s squad.
Jurgen Klopp has previously hailed Dominic Calvert-Lewin as a complete package
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has previously lavished praise on Calvert-Lewin.
This came ahead of the Merseyside derby in 2020, at a time when the 28-year-old was in incredible form, having scored nine goals in six games for Everton including two hat-tricks.
Klopp backed Calvert-Lewin to make it big, stating that he has everything that makes a top striker. He said: “Calvert-Lewin, I really expected him to make big steps in the next few years and he did.
“He has everything you need in a top striker: size, mobility, speed, desire, technically really, really good, in the air, finishing with his head, both feet.”
