Middlesbrough star's £15m Premier League tug of war as Brentford set for first move

Brentford are ready to challenge Crystal Palace with a £15m bid for Middlesbrough defender Rav van den Berg according to reports today.

The Boro stopper has been linked with a move away from the Riverside this summer after impressing last season, with several Premier League clubs considering a bid.

Palace emerged as an interested party earlier this summer, but now new Bees boss Keith Andrews is said to be keen to bring him to Brentford after replacing Thomas Frank in the hotseat.

Van de Berg's brother Sepp already plays for Brentford, having joined from Liverpool in 2024, and 20-year-old Rav could now follow him to North West London.

The Sun's Alan Nixon reports of Brentford's interest via his Patreon account, with Palace said to be considering a double bid for Van den Berg and midfielder Hayden Hackney, thought to be worth around £30m.

Former Huddersfield Town star O'Brien has fallen down the pecking order at Forest and is set to leave the City Ground this summer, with Middlesbrough at one stage weighing up a move.

Transfer battle

Norwich City and Portsmouth are battling it out to sign Pelle Mattsson, with the Canaries reportedly having a bid of £1.7m turned down by Silkeborg for the Danish midfielder.

Portsmouth are keen on a deal for the 23-year-old, but Silkeborg are though to want in the region of £2.5m for his services.

Hull City are close to agreeing a deal for Matija Frigan from Belgian outfit KVC Westerlo, according to Hull Live. The 22-year-old Croatian forward has worked with new Tigers boss Sergej Jakirovic at Rijeka.

Meanwhile, former Newcastle United and Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey featured for City in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Lincoln City on Saturday.

The 33-year-old is looking to impress while training with the club, after leaving Burnley at the end of the season.
