Report: Leeds United and Burnley told how much 15-goal Championship star will cost, more than Jaka Bijol

The search for a striker at Leeds United continues with The Whites keen on luring a starting striker to Elland Road, and The Whites have been told one Championship option will cost more than Jaka Bijol.

Immediately after the addition of Lukas Nmecha, Leeds had made it clear that the club would still look to sign a starting option up top. Nmecha has been signed simply to provide cover for whoever Leeds sign.

It does mean that Leeds currently have five strikers up top. Joe Gelhardt has returned, while Mateo Joseph and Patrick Bamford remain. Joel Piroe and Nmecha are currently expected to compete with a big signing.

Leeds have made a £32m bid for Rodrigo Muniz, but it was rejected. Plenty of other names have been linked with a move to Elland Road including one striker operating in the Championship, expected to go.

Leeds told how much old Daniel Farke signing will now cost

Leeds have been linked with a move for Norwich City’s USA striker Josh Sargent. While at Norwich, Farke signed Sargent from Max Wober’s new side Werder Bremen just a few months before he was sacked.

The USA star has remained at Norwich since. Despite an injury-hit 2024-25 campaign that limited Sargent to just 32 Championship appearances, he still managed 15 goals and five assists for the Carrow Road side.

It saw Sargent named in the Championship Team of the Season ahead of Piroe, despite Piroe’s 19 goals in the Championship. Now, the Pink ‘Un say the race for Sargent is hotting up with Leeds named as a suitor.

The report comes after Norwich signed Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden, seen as a replacement for Sargent. The report states that Burnley and Wolfsburg are also keen on Sargent, who is rated at £16m.

The report also says that Wolfsburg are interested in Sargent, though their valuation of Sargent is far below what Norwich want for the striker if they are to sell him. Leeds and Burnley can get him.

According to Sheffield Wednesday star Josh Windass, Sargent is currently the best striker in England’s second tier ahead of Piroe. Certainly, Sargent has played in the Premier League while Piroe is yet to.

That is not to say that Piroe would fail in the Premier League, or any worse then Sargent managed. But it does show that Sargent knows what to expect when it comes to England’s top tier, more so than Piroe.

For just £1m more than Jaka Bijol then, Leeds could sign Sargent. Whether he is the striker Leeds should place their faith in next season remains to be seen with fans likely to see his arrival as underwhelming.
