Oasis, Ozzy&the World of sport unite to mourn Diogo Jota

The world hasn’t stopped grieving since the devastating loss of Diogo Jota.

As news of his tragic passing spread, tributes began to pour in, not just from footballers and fans, but from across music, motorsport and global sporting arenas.

Jota meant something to people far beyond Liverpool.

He was more than a footballer, and over the last few days, that has been made powerfully clear.

On the opening night of Oasis’ first show in 16 years, the band paused their set to honour Jota with a touching dedication of Live Forever.

As the song closed, his image lit up the stage, wearing the No. 20 shirt he made iconic.

At the final Black Sabbath concert at Villa Park, Ozzy Osbourne closed his set with a visual tribute to Jota.

Portuguese guitarist Nuno Bettencourt joined the stage wearing a Liverpool kit with Jota’s name on the back.

In the MLS, Diogo Goncalves, Jota’s former Portugal U21 teammate, celebrated his goal with the ‘controller’ celebration Jota made famous.

Nashville SC’s Hany Mukhtar and his teammates also paid tribute after scoring a winner in stoppage time.

In Australia, AFL players Errol Gulden and Jesse Motlop mimicked Jota’s celebration after goals, showing his impact even in distant leagues.

Meanwhile, in the NRL, Manly’s Tom Trbojevic marked a try with a raised ‘20’.

At Silverstone, during the British Grand Prix weekend, Fatboy Slim flashed Jota’s image on the big screen.

In boxing and MMA rings, fighters raised his name in post-fight tributes, including Portuguese MMA star Gustavo Oliveira.
