Arsenal have struggled for a long time with their striker problem, without a real answer since the departure of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang in 2022. They have been criticised year after year for failing to splash the cash to get one of the best. However, it now looks like Arsenal are set to bring in Viktor Gyokeres and finally look like a complete team.
Arsenal Have ‘Total Agreement’ With Viktor Gyokeres: Club to Club Negotiations ‘Very Close’
Gyokeres Only Wants Arsenal
Fabrizio Romano has reported that Arsenal have reached a “total agreement” with Gyokeres over contract terms, with the Swede telling his club that he only wants the North London outfit (after interest from Manchester United amongst others) and will no longer turn up to training. David Ornstein, of The Athletic, understands that terms are in place for a five-year contract.

Meanwhile, an agreement is “very close” with Sporting Lisbon as a “breakthrough in talks is getting really close”. Ornstein revealed that there are still discussions being made over the transfer fee, but the “situation is progressing towards a conclusion”. The transfer fee has been a problem for some time, as Sporting reportedly broke a gentleman’s agreement to let the player go for around £65 million. It is unclear what kind of fee will need to be reached for this transfer.
Can Arsenal Finally Win the Premier League?
This signing appears to be the final piece of the puzzle: Arsenal had been missing a striker, a talisman who can consistently score goals all season. Whilst it appears that “Europe’s deadliest striker” should be that, it seems like this solution is coming too late. The striker problem was the final problem two or three years ago but now Arsenal have more.
Two or three years ago, the team was thriving perfectly in almost every position. Now, some players are no longer in such great form. Gabriel Martinelli scored 15 in the 2022/23 Premier League season but has since suffered with injuries. Martin Odegaard was once one of the best players in the league but has had his critics over the past year. Meanwhile, even Bukayo Saka has started to struggle with injuries.

Gyokeres may well hit the ground running, but to win the Premier League you need an ensemble, not just one star. Liverpool had that last season and will likely have the same this season, and whilst Manchester City had an off-year, you can bet they will be back even hungrier in the 2025/26 campaign.
