Viktor Gyokeres reportedly nearing £69m Arsenal transfer as early meeting with Ruben Amorim’s Man Utd looms

Rumours linking Viktor Gyokeres with a move to Manchester United can surely be put to bed as he nears a move to Arsenal.

Sporting stars have been linked with moves to Old Trafford ever since Manchester United appointed Ruben Amorim.

Amorim enjoyed huge success during his time at Sporting, winning two league titles before heading to Manchester.

Managers tend to target players they have previously coached, which United certainly experienced under Erik ten Hag.

Speculation has surrounded United moving for Sporting players, with Ousmane Diomande fancying a reunion with Amorim.

Francisco Trincao has also been on United’s radar, but much of the hype has surrounded striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Viktor Gyokeres to Manchester United rumours finally set to end

Gyokeres was Amorim’s goalscoring sensation for Sporting, smashing 66 goals and 23 assists in 68 games under the now-United boss.

The Swede has continued to bang in the goals since Amorim’s exit and has made himself one of Europe’s most in-demand strikers.

United have made contact to sign Gyokeres, though a deal always looked tricky despite his connection with Amorim.

Gyokeres will want to play Champions League football, and United can’t offer any kind of European action this season.

Aftonbladet in Gyokeres’ native Sweden now claim that the striker is poised to complete a move to Arsenal.

A deal worth around 900 million kronor – which works out to £69million – is now in the pipeline with Arsenal finally on the verge of securing an agreement.

Fabrizio Romano adds that Arsenal are ‘getting closer’ to signing Gyokeres having held a new round of talks with Sporting.

Gyokeres wants to leave Sporting and Arsenal now appear to be the favourites to secure his signature.

Viktor Gyokeres could make his competitive Arsenal debut v Manchester United

Rumours linking Gyokeres with a move to United can surely be put to bed now, but he will still be in line for a visit to Old Trafford very soon.

United host Arsenal on the opening weekend of the Premier League season, meaning Gyokeres’ Gunners debut could come right in front of Amorim.

Arsenal are adding Gabriel Heinze to Mikel Arteta’s coaching staff, with the Argentinian set for a return to Old Trafford next month.

Gyokeres now looks set to be in action for that clash, with Amorim now looking to shut him down having spent so long celebrating his success.
