Ex-Arsenal star tipped to join Leeds United – Will be a massive upgrade

Leeds United are aware that they need to do a lot of incoming transfer business in the coming weeks to have a squad that can be good enough to survive in the Premier League next season. However, the Whites have a few priority positions they need to sort out as soon as possible.

The Yorkshire giants have done some business this summer to bolster their squad. Lukas Nmecha has arrived on a free transfer to bolster their attacking options, and Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw have been added to their defence.

However, Leeds are still in the hunt for several players, with left-back, an attacking midfielder and a striker set to be the priorities for the ongoing summer transfer window.

Leeds are also in the hunt for a new goalkeeper to replace Illan Meslier, and the club have been urged to bring in an experienced shot-stopper to stand between the sticks in the Premier League.

Leeds United urged to sign former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsdale

Former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Leeds should do everything to sign Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in the ongoing transfer window.

The former Arsenal star will leave Southampton this summer due to a release clause that got activated following their relegation from the Premier League last season.

The ex-White insisted a move to Leeds will make more sense to Ramsdale than a transfer north of the border to join Rangers, who are also unlikely to afford him.

“Aaron Ramsdale, I’ve gone on record before, I’d love to see him go to Leeds”, Robinson told Football Insider.

“For Ramsdale, I’m not sure at this stage of his career, with the World Cup coming up and wanting to get back into the England reckoning, that a move to Rangers would be ideal.

“For Rangers, I don’t see that being a priority when they’ve got a goalkeeper of Butland’s quality.”

Ramsdale is proven and a major upgrade on Meslier

Ramsdale has suffered two relegations in the last two seasons from the Premier League, but he could not be blamed for being part of two poor teams in Sheffield United and Southampton.

He proved at Arsenal that he is a top goalkeeper, and is still in the reckoning for a place in the England squad under manager Thomas Tuchel.

The 27-year-old is a Premier League-proven goalkeeper who will be an instant upgrade on anything Leeds have in their squad this summer.

Leeds cannot afford to have an unproven or young goalkeeper in the Premier League next season, and needs a personality like Ramsdale inside the penalty box.

It would make sense for Leeds to make a play and convince the former Arsenal star to move north and join the Whites ahead of next season.
