Every summer, the NBA welcomes young and developing players to its Summer League with an opportunity to display their talent and compete for a roster spot. This year, the event will be divided into three segments: The California Classic from July 5-8, the Salt Lake City Summer League from July 5-8, and the NBA 2K26 Summer League in Las Vegas from July 10-20.
Spread among these locations and dates are a handful of familiar Tar Heels that will compete. Some are representing the squad that drafted them, while others will suit up for teams that signed them as an UDFA. Teams also look to former Summer League players or past signings to fill out rosters.
Here are the former UNC basketball stars that will take the hardwood this summer:
**Drake Powell - Brooklyn Nets**
Powell was drafted by the Nets in the 2025 NBA Draft with the No. 22 pick.
**RJ Davis - Los Angeles Lakers**
Davis agreed to a free-agent deal with the Lakers after going undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft.
**Harrison Ingram - San Antonio Spurs**
Ingram was drafted by the Spurs in the 2024 NBA Draft with the No. 48 pick.
**Armando Bacot - Memphis Grizzlies**
Bacot played the 2024-25 season with the Memphis Hustle, the G-League affiliate of the Grizzlies.
**Cormac Ryan - Milwaukee Bucks**
Ryan played in the 2024 Summer League with the Thunder after going undrafted, but was later released. He was picked up by the Bucks for this year’s Summer League.
**Pete Nance - Milwaukee Bucks**
Nance played in the 2023 and 2024 Summer Leagues with the Cavaliers, but was signed to a two-way contract with the Bucks in February.
Other non-graduates or transfers from North Carolina, like Caleb Love, Kerwin Walton and Justin McKoy, are also participating this summer.
It is worth noting that different teams have different plans for certain players. Some players use this event as a tryout, while players like Ingram and Powell, who were drafted by their respective teams, use the games as a developmental prelude to their NBA careers. Those participating in the G-League have a leg up on those who were just signed for the Summer League, but they are all ultimately competing for the same thing.
Good luck to all the former Tar Heels participating!
