Gabriel Gudmundsson could be next through the door as Leeds United look to continue their positive start to the transfer window.

The Whites appear to have started slowly with some signings, but Daniel Farke’s side are now set to beat off European competition for the Lille defender.

Leeds have already signed Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw to strengthen their defence, and Gudmundsson will add further depth as Leeds creep closer to the Premier League season.

It seems as though a deal is developing quickly for the Swedish international, as the Elland Road club look to finally replace Junior Firpo.

After Firpo’s exit was confirmed, it became clear that Leeds would need to sign a new left-back this summer.

The Peacocks needed to be quick in the race for Gudmundsson, and thankfully, the 26-year-old looks to be heading to Elland Road.

Farke’s side has already missed out on Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki, and they are looking to avoid battling for players who don’t want to play in the famous Leeds kit.

According to Turkish media outlet Fanatik (5 July), Lille’s asking price for Gudmundsson is £8.6million.

Fenerbahce are also interested in the Swede, but the left-back looks to be bound for West Yorkshire.

Graham Smyth has also reported that the international defender is expected to travel to England to continue talks.

Gudmundsson has played 15 times for his country and has amassed plenty of experience in his nine-year playing career.

Gudmundsson will be crucial to Leeds’ defence, and Farke can now focus on signing players further up the pitch.

The Whites have been linked with Norwich forward Josh Sargent this transfer window, with Farke having previously worked with the 25-year-old.

Farke’s side have also been linked with Timothy Weah from Juventus as the window intensifies in the coming weeks, with all eyes on new additions.
