Suns and Knicks eye former Lakers head coach

The Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks are both targeting former Lakers head coach Darvin Ham for an assistant coaching role.

Darvin Ham is drawing attention from multiple teams this offseason, with both the Phoenix Suns and New York Knicks expressing interest in adding the former Los Angeles Lakers head coach to their bench.

“Phoenix and now New York — after the hiring of Mike Brown as the Knicks' new head coach — have expressed interest in trying to hire Darvin Ham away from the Bucks,” The Stein Line reported.

The Knicks' interest comes shortly after officially appointing Mike Brown as their new head coach.

Ham and Brown previously worked together on the 2011–12 Lakers coaching staff, a connection that could help bring Ham to New York.

Ham is currently on the Milwaukee Bucks staff after serving two seasons as the head coach of the Lakers, including a trip to the 2023 Western Conference Finals.

He returned to Milwaukee — where he had previously served as an assistant — following his exit from L.A.
