Report: Anthony Gordon-esque winger refusing to sign new contract amid Everton interest

Everton are looking to sign a winger this summer transfer window.

Initially, it was Jack Grealish who was heavily linked to Everton, but those rumours have since gone quiet over the last week or so.

Ipswich Town’s Omari Hutchinson is on David Moyes’ radar, with the England under-21 international valued at around £30m.

Moyes has also looked at Harvey Elliott, although, that may be a very difficult deal to do given the rivalry with Liverpool.

Now, one of their other rumoured targets is actually refusing to sign a new contract, giving Everton a transfer boost.

Everton target Edon Zhegrova refusing to sign new Lille contract

Earlier this week, it emerged that Everton were keeping tabs on Edon Zhegrova as they look to bolster their attacking ranks.

The Lille wide player enjoyed a productive campaign last term, registering 10 goal contributions across just 21 appearances.

Now, according to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Zhegrova is refusing to sign a new deal, which has forced the French outfit to lower his price tag.

Lille are now willing to sell the 26-year-old for around £17m, with Fenerbahce and Napoli also credited with interest.

Edon Zhegrova likened to Anthony Gordon

According to FBref data, Zhegrova’s playstyle is actually very similar to former Everton and current Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon.

Zhegrova is statistically one of the best wingers in Europe for beating his full-back, ranking in the top six per cent for successful take-ons per 90 compared to his positional peers.

Unlike Gordon, though, the Kosovo international predominantly plays off the right wing, cutting in onto his favoured left foot.

For all of the positives, Zhegrova’s defensive data isn’t great, so that would certainly be an area he’d have to improve under Moyes.

The Scotsman’s wide players have to work extremely hard in his system.
