Manchester United‘reignite interest’in former Premier League midfielder

Manchester United have reignited their interest in Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz, who has been informed he does not feature in the club’s plans for next season.

Luiz endured a disappointing debut season in Turin after joining Juventus from Aston Villa last summer. He started just three times in Serie A last season and the Italian side are now prepared to sanction his exit. Juventus are are set to incur a significant loss on their €50m investment.

Manchester United held talks with Luiz’s representatives earlier this year and the Red Devils have now reignited their interest. Christian Eriksen’s exit and Casemiro’s advancing age mean midfield reinforcements are on the agenda for Ruben Amorim.

Luiz has emerged as an attractive option for the Red Devils given his availability and Premier League experience.

The 27-year-old impressed across five seasons with Aston Villa prior to his move to Serie A. He was named the club’s Player of the Season in 2022/23, before playing a key part in the club’s Champions League qualification a season later. Juventus’s interest in Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho has also opened up the prospect of a swap deal.

United will face competition for the player’s signature, however, with other Premier League teams interested.

Italian journalist Matteo Moretto has claimed that Everton and Fulham have also enquired about Luiz with each keen to learn the conditions of a deal.
