Aston Villa prospect pens first pro deal after key role in historic treble season

Central defender Carroll, 18, hails from Cannock and has been part of Villa's youth set-up since the under-9s age group.

The teen, a former Cannock Chase High School student, was a key player as Villa's under-18s enjoyed a trio of success in the FA Youth Cup, Premier League South and Premier League National Final last season.

Carroll, who was a midfielder earlier in his career before dropping into defence, netted in the 3-1 Youth Cup final success over Manchester City. He also provided an assist for the match-winner in Premier League National Final.

Villa academy manager Mark Harrison said: "We are delighted to see TJ sign his first professional contract.

"He was a regular in the under-18s last season, being a consistent part of the team that won both the league and FA Youth Cup and also scoring in the FA Youth Cup Final.

"TJ is a centre back who is very good in possession and is always prepared to put his body on the line. We look forward to seeing how he develops."

He originally signed a scholarship deal in 2023 after a successful season with Villa's under-16s.
