Crystal Palace close in on agreement for 27y/o star as major Sun afternoon update emerges

Crystal Palace and Ajax are closing in on an agreement for the summer transfer of left-back Borna Sosa to the Selhurst Park club, according to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf.

The Eagles will be paying an initial €4 million for the 27-year-old, with add-ons set to be included in the final contract.

Palace submitted an opening bid for Sosa on Friday, and both clubs have continued talks and are now expected to reach an agreement very soon.

The London club want to bolster their options at left-back after Ben Chilwell struggled to give Tyrick Mitchell a run for his money after arriving on loan from Chelsea in January, and manager Oliver Glasner has identified Sosa as a target.

The Croatian can add much-needed quality depth to the Palace defence and give Mitchell competition for his place in the starting XI, and the deal could be wrapped up in the coming days.

Sosa is one of seven players no longer allowed to train with the Ajax first-team as they look to sell some high earners, and he will now be plying his trade in the Premier League from next season from the look of things.

Palace, who are awaiting UEFA’s decision on whether they will be allowed to play in the Europa League next term after they qualified by winning the FA Cup, need squad depth heading into 2025-26, and the Croatian fits the bill given his quality and experience.

Sosa, who can also feature as a left wing-back, has played in the Bundesliga, Eredivisie and Serie A, and he has plenty to offer as the Eagles look to impress across all competitions next season.

Mitchell featured in 45 games across all competitions last season, making 37 Premier League appearances last term, and he has often had to play through minor injuries and niggles due to Palace’s absence of quality cover at left-back.
