Everton are in the market for a new striker this summer, and Alexander Sorloth could fit the bill.

The Blues are closing in on a move for Villarreal striker Thierno Barry, but at 22 years old, his signature is a gamble.

David Moyes may also choose to bring in a more experienced option while the France Under-21 star adapts to the demands of the Premier League.

Everton tipped to make Sorloth move after DCL exit

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has departed Everton after his contract expired, ending his nine-year association with the Toffees.

Ian Darke has tipped the Blues to make a move for the Norwegian forward, given their need for a new attacker after Calvert-Lewin’s exit.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, he said: “A player that I am surprised there is not a bit more interest in Spain is a guy who used to play for Crystal Palace, called Alexander Sorloth at Atlético Madrid.

“Because they have got Julian Alvarez and Antoine Griezmann, he only made 15 starts for them in the league, so under half the games and scored 20 goals.

“He has become a really good goalscorer, I am a bit surprised that nobody is England is sniffing around because he is not a regular, I mean they won’t want to sell him because they love having him around and he scores a lot of goals from the bench.

“If I was someone like an Everton, [I’d look at signing him].

Sorloth deal would make sense for Everton

Sorloth would be a true marquee signing for the Friedkin Group after they took over from Farhad Moshiri in December.

The Hill Dickinson Stadium outfit desperately needs goals after Calvert-Lewin and Beto struck just 11 between them in the league last season.

The Norway international made just 16 appearances for the Eagles before he departed, and could thrive if he returned to English football after his sensational form with the Madrid-based side, in which he scored 20 in 35 matches.

His signature would allow Moyes to ease Barry into English football slowly rather than throwing him in at the deep end.
