German Goalkeeper on Her Way to Liverpool

[Soccerdonna](https://x.com/soccerdonna/status/1941906492216525118) reports that Rafaela Borggräfe is on her way to Liverpool. Negotiations have already taken place and been agreed upon; now only the official announcement remains. Borggräfe joins Liverpool from SC Freiburg, where she announced her departure earlier this year in April. The goalkeeper spent 12 years at SC Freiburg, progressing through the youth ranks before making her Bundesliga debut in 2021. The 25-year-old had hoped to make the German [Women’s EURO](https://womenfootball.blog/womens-euro-2025-schedule/) squad but unfortunately did not make the final cut.

“SC Freiburg has been my home, my daily life, my heart for over a decade. I came here as a young girl and was given the chance to grow step by step – both as a player and as a person. I’ve grown alongside the club, experienced highs and lows, and most importantly, met many special people who’ve shaped my journey. SC gave me the opportunity to live out my dream of becoming a professional footballer, and for that I’m endlessly grateful. Leaving the club wasn’t an easy decision, but I feel that now is the right time for me to take a new path and challenge myself in new ways.”

Liverpool currently has two goalkeepers, Rachel Laws and Faye Kirby, following Tegan Micah’s departure this summer. Laws has made over 100 appearances for Liverpool and featured in 20 matches during the 2024/25 season, making 45 saves and keeping 4 clean sheets. It is likely that Borggräfe will serve as the second-choice goalkeeper behind Laws, with the possibility of taking over the starting role if she proves herself at the club.
