Man Utd finally address Ruben Amorim’s overwhelming media commitments,‘We limit…’

Ruben Amorim has faced many problems at Manchester United since arriving in November 2024, but one that has frustrated fans to no end is his sheer number of media commitments.

As a charismatic and endearing individual, Ruben Amorim’s press conferences and interviews quickly became a favourite of Man Utd fans.

However, fans soon started to wonder how much impact it was having on him due to the sheer amount of media duties he was having to do.

Amorim himself said after the first week on the job that he had spoken more in one week than he had during his whole time at Sporting.

The club have finally addressed the elephant in the room.

Man Utd recently held a [fan forum](https://assets.manutd.com/AssetPicker/images/0/0/22/88/1464344/Fans'_Forum_June_2025_-_Minutes1751624569755.pdf) (on June 30th) where the floor was open for supporter groups to ask questions directly from the leadership.

Various subjects were addressed, from Jadon Sancho returning to United to the multiple grievances relating to ticketing procedures.

One fan asked United what they thought of the tiring number of media duties for the Man Utd manager, saying, “Why has Ruben Amorim had over 500 media interviews- is this a strategy? Does he even want to do them? Surely, he is not contracted to do that many?”

United responded: “The overwhelming majority of interviews conducted by Ruben are contractual obligations under the terms of broadcast contracts agreed by the Premier League (and the governing bodies of our cup competitions).

“For each Premier League fixture, our head coach usually conducts at least eight contractual interviews before or after the game with domestic and international TV and radio rightsholders. This number increases for the biggest games.

“We limit Ruben’s media commitments to the extent possible while ensuring that we deliver on our contractual commitments to rightsholders, whose investments keep the game healthy, and whose content serves fans around the world.”

Manchester United’s answer is as expected as it could have been, and that is because broadcasters have a chokehold on the league.

Match-going fans are second in priority when they are the ones who create all the atmosphere which is then sold to the broadcasters worldwide.

Amorim knew what he signed up for but it doesn’t mean actually being in the thick of it gets any easier.

The attention that follows Man Utd is exhausting at times, something which Manuel Ugarte alluded to recently, but the club needs to walk that tightrope.

It is amazing to imagine this is the extent of his media duties when United say they try to limit it as much as they can. If they didn’t, he’ll probably have a camera following him 24 hours a day!
