Bills' Toughest Camp Position Battle Lands At Receiver

Josh Allen is the Buffalo Bills' reigning MVP, and is as capable is any player in the NFL at “doing it alone.”

But Buffalo knew it needed to surround its star quarterback with better receiving threats going into the 2025 season.

And so …

Buffalo added Joshua Palmer, Elijah Moore, and Laviska Shenault to their receiving room this offseason. The organization's goal is to create significant competition among everyone in the room.

That is why Pro Football Network's Jacob Infante called Buffalo's receiving depth chart one of the bigger position battles going into training camp.

"Amari Cooper and Mack Hollins are no longer on the team, leaving an opening as their WR1 going into 2025," Infante said. "Joshua Palmer figures to be the top contender, seeing as though he's making close to $10 million annually. Curtis Samuel remains part of the rotation, however, and Elijah Moore is just coming off a season with 538 receiving yards.

"Buffalo's wide receiver group should be the top position battle on their roster."

As things stand right now, the Bills do not have a dependable No. 1 receiver. They have several wideouts who bring something valuable to their offense. And Buffalo hopes that is enough to compete with the Kansas City Chiefs or Baltimore Ravens moving forward.

Overseeing a position battle - with Khalil Shakir and Keon Coleman seen as the leaders - is an excellent plan here. This will allow the Bills to start the players who earn their playing time, instead of pushing out starters who are only there because of contract obligations or draft status.

We say Buffalo's receiving battle ranks No. 1 on the roster … And while it doesn't seem like anyone is leading or falling in that battle right now, in the end Josh Allen doesn’t just need the best available body. He needs a true standout.
