Nico Gonzalez’s time at Manchester City could come to a premature end just months after he made the move to the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City are ready to sell Nico, who is open to an exit as well with several clubs in Europe and the Saudi Pro League being keen on securing his services.
Alongside Omar Marmoush, the 24-year-old seemed best-placed to have an instant impact out of the City’s four signings in the winter transfer window.
Pep Guardiola called Nico “mini-Rodri” after his first Premier League start against Newcastle United as well.
Man City midfielder Nico Gonzalez hinted Barcelona is his dream club
However, it seems like Nico Gonzalez and Manchester City have not been the match made in heaven it looked like being initially.
Considering Manchester City signed Nico for £50 million, if he were to leave, it’s safe to say that the former Porto midfielder would go down as arguably the most underwhelming signing in their history.

Speaking to SPORT in 2022, Nico revealed that despite City’s interest in signing him when he was 16, his ambition has always been to spend the rest of his career at Barcelona — a move he still may be keen on making: “I was 11 and a lot of teams wanted me, like Real Madrid, but I was always a Barça fan. And before signing I trained there and knew friends like Eric Garcia, Take Kubo and Ansu Fati. At 16, I could have gone to Manchester City but I have always wanted to succeed at Barça. And it’s not gone badly.”

“Soon, we will have to sit down and speak. It will be an important moment for my future. If Barça want, I would stay here for my whole life.”
Nico Gonzalez shared why he was ‘disappointed’ after Man City move
Things change quickly in football, with Nico revealing he is studying Rodri’s game until very recently.
However, the La Masia graduate could very well bid farewell to the Etihad Stadium now.
Nico was “disappointed” after joining Manchester City as they were struggling in the Premier League and if he were to try and engineer a move to Barcelona, the player would be joining Spain’s double-winners.
Nico said at the time: “I’ve just arrived, I’m not used to playing against players of the quality like Mohamed] Salah, I think he already had 30 goals and it’s tough to play against players like this. I haven’t won a Premier League. I’ve been here two weeks. It’s disappointing to lose and disappointing to be fourth in the league.”
