The Dallas Cowboys entered the offseason with renewed optimism surrounding their offensive potential.
The addition of George Pickens to play alongside CeeDee Lamb had fans buzzing about the receiving corps, while KaVontae Turpin appeared ready to take on an expanded role.
The energy around the team suggested big things were ahead, but that optimism took a sudden hit before training camp.
Turpin, an All-Pro kick returner, reportedly was arrested and is facing two misdemeanor charges.
“Cowboys All-Pro wide receiver Kavontae Turpin was arrested this morning by police on illegal marijuana and gun charges,” MLFootball wrote on X.

Turpin reportedly is facing one Class B misdemeanor for marijuana possession and another Class A misdemeanor for unlawful weapon carry.
The 28-year-old reportedly was booked into Collin County Jail and released after posting bond.
The timing couldn’t be worse for Dallas. Turpin signed a three-year, $18 million contract extension with the Cowboys in March, making him the highest-paid special teams player in NFL history.
After he was dismissed from TCU due to another legal issue, Turpin managed to work his way through the USFL and other leagues to earn an NFL opportunity.
The Cowboys did not immediately issue a public statement regarding the arrest. Whether Turpin will face consequences under the NFL’s personal conduct policy remains unclear.
His 2024 season was exceptional, leading the NFL in kickoff return average at 33.5 yards per attempt.
He scored touchdowns on both kickoff and punt returns while adding 420 receiving yards with two TDs, earning First-Team All-Pro honors and his second Pro Bowl selection.
