Tyler Herro could ‘potentially’ net 2 1st-round picks in a trade

The [Miami Heat](https://heatnation.com/) may have to make a decision on the future of guard Tyler Herro sooner rather than later, and it’s always possible that the franchise entertains trading him.

Herro is extension eligible later this year, and if the two sides don’t come to an agreement, he would be eligible for another extension next offseason. He is only under contract with Miami through the 2026-27 season.

According to the _Miami Herald_’s Barry Jackson, Herro could potentially net the franchise two first-round picks in a trade, if the Heat end up going that route.

A former Sixth Man of the Year, Herro had arguably the best season of his NBA career in the 2024-25 campaign.

Herro became the No. 1 option on offense for Miami, especially after the team moved on from Jimmy Butler, and he delivered by averaging 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game while shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from 3-point range.

As a result, Herro was named to an All-Star team for the first time in his NBA career.

The No. 13 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Herro certainly has made a case to be a long-term piece for Miami. However, if the Heat take another step back in the 2025-26 season, they could look to change course with their current roster.

As it is, Miami was just the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference in the 2024-25 season, and it earned that spot by winning back-to-back play-in tournament games as the No. 10 seed. Miami was then promptly swept in the first round of the playoffs.

There’s no doubt that Herro has value as a pure scorer, but he also isn’t a player that is going to be in the running for an All-Defensive team unless he really picks things up on that side of the ball.

Herro has posted a negative defensive box plus/minus in every season of his NBA career.

While Miami may not even consider trading Herro, it’s interesting to see what his value could be if the Heat do change course and look to shop one of their best players.
