Game Recap

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--- Former California Baptist University standout Taran Armstrong made his NBA Summer League Debut on Saturday afternoon as the Golden State Warriors hosted the Los Angeles Lakers in the California Classic.

Armstrong started at point guard for the Warriors in the Summer League opener and showed well with seven points and a game-high six assists as the Warriors would defeat the Lakers 89-84. Armstrong had a strong start, dishing out the first assist of the game to Marques Bolden and then connecting on a deep triple a few minutes later. The Warriors would overcome a double-digit deficit in the game to come away with the five-point home victory.

Armstrong signed a two-way contract with the Warriors toward the back end of the season last year and performed well on the Warriors' G-League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors. The former Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and All-WAC performer averaged nearly 12 points per game and eight assists per game in 11 games of work. The Burnie, Tasmania native became the first Tasmanian-born athlete to sign an NBA contract last season, and his strong play on the pro level has made him an intriguing candidate to make the Warriors roster this fall.
