Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Chase Claypool is attempting an NFL comeback after missing all of last season with a serious foot injury.
In an emotional Instagram post, Claypool talked about a second toe injury that cost him the entire season after he was climbing the Buffalo Bills’ depth chart steadily throughout training camp.
I was playing my best football — working my way up from LAST (14th) string to taking first-team reps by camp. Most of all, I was doing it with a group of guys I truly appreciated,"Claypool wrote. “I tore a ligament and a tendon in my second toe and have been rehabbing, working out, and recovering every day for the past year. I am back to being the strongest and fastest I’ve ever been and couldn’t be more excited to step back out on the field and let my actions speak for themselves.”
Claypool’s career has not been the same since he was traded to the Chicago Bears by the Steelers. He has failed to stick on any one team for long, and the Bears moved him to the Miami Dolphins just a year after the Steelers traded him.
Claypool is now at a crossroads in his career, but his talent should help him land another gig somewhere. That will not be Pittsburgh, but it could always be Buffalo if he is healthy enough to suit up.
