5 iconic Diogo Jota goals for Liverpool including winners against Everton and Tottenham

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, 28, passed away Thursday morning in a car accident while driving in Northern Spain with his brother Andre Silva, 25.

Many of Jota's current and former teammates, including those with the Portugal national team, mourned him and his brother at a funeral in the small Portuguese town of Gondomar.

In 182 games for the Reds across all competitions, scoring 65 goals and assisting 22 others. Those tallies helped him win a Premier League title, an FA Cup, and two EFL Cups with Liverpool. A prolific stretch last season saw him named the January 2024 Premier League Player of the Year.

Here are five of Jota's most memorable goals for the club:

Everton (A), 2021

Jota's first Merseyside derby goal was not particularly consequential: it was the fourth goal in a relatively routine 4-1 win at Goodison Park. However, it was an exclamation point that showed Liverpool were true contenders for the Premier League title in 2021.

Jota's finish was sublime after an Andy Robertson ball found him at the end of a deft run. The Portuguese international scooped the ball with his back (right) leg and onto his left in one fluid motion before rifling over goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Allan, the marking Everton defender, couldn't do anything to stop him.

Arsenal (A), 2022

This is a double: Jota scored both goals against Arsenal in the second leg of the 2021/22 EFL Cup playoffs, sending the Reds to Wembley. His first was a signature darting solo through the Gunners' defenders before a cool, slowly rolled cross-net finish.

The second came from a lovely ball courtesy of Trent Alexander-Arnold. Jota lobbed goalie Aaron Ramsdale before wheeling away in frantic celebrations. A month later, Liverpool knocked off Chelsea to win the EFL Cup, Jota's first trophy with the club.

Tottenham (H), 2023

Jota's game-winning goal against Tottenham in 2023 cemented the conclusion to one of the most frantic Premier League games imaginable. Liverpool soundly stormed to a 3-0 lead early in the second half before Spurs surprisingly leveled proceedings.

The forward was only just returning from injury in a complicated 2022/23 season for both player and club. His stoppage-time winner past Hugo Lloris kick-started a goal-scoring binge for Jota that allowed him to start the next campaign on a heater.

Chelsea (h), 2024

In January 2024, Jurgen Klopp's squad was threadbare. Jota, for a time, was one of the most senior members of the team. He scored the first of four for the Reds against Chelsea to help Liverpool stay top of the Premier League table.

The Portuguese international had only returned from injury a month before but looked in prime form. He received the ball at the top of the box, started one of his vintage, mazy runs, and with the help of a deflection, finished into the Blues' net.

Everton (H), 2025

The game-winner in the most recent Merseyside derby would turn out to be the final goal of Jota's career. Liverpool were in a rough patch this April after falling out of the Champions League and struggled to break down a stubborn Everton defense.

Jota collected a backheel from teammate Luis Diaz, danced past a pair of Everton defenders, and slotted into the back of the net. Liverpool won the game 1-0 and eventually captured the Premier League title.
