Newcastle United are hoping to wrap up deals for Anthony Elanga and James Trafford in the next couple of days, and are hoping to sign Giorgio Scalvini.
The Magpies are still yet to make that first major signing for the starting line-up, and fans are getting restless.
Newcastle United return to Darsley Park for pre-season training on Monday, and Eddie Howe will have just Antonio Cordero as a new arrival for his team. Even then, there will be questions on whether he will be a first-team player before going out on loan.
Howe will be hoping that business picks up in the next few days and that his squad will have new additions before their first game of pre-season against Celtic. Newcastle have made an offer of £55million for Anthony Elanga, and that deal is believed to be close.
Elsewhere, Newcastle are big fans of Atalanta’s Giorgio Scalvini and spent time over the weekend in talks for the 21-year-old.
With Newcastle returning to pre-season training, here are the latest transfer news and rumours regarding the Magpies.

Newcastle United’s deal for Anthony Elanga “close but complicated”
Elanga has been a long-standing target for Newcastle, with the Magpies placing a deadline day bid for the winger in August 2024. Now, it looks like Howe will get the player he has been so desperate to sign.
Newcastle’s £55m offer for Elanga has been well received by Nottingham Forest, but nothing has been completely agreed as it stands.

According to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, the deal for Elanga remains close, but it is also complicated. Some details are still being worked on by the two clubs. Despite that, there is still hope that the deal will get sorted.
Newcastle United handed blow in Giorgio Scalvini race
Newcastle want to sign a new defender this summer, and have identified Scalvini as their top target. However, Atalanta see Scalvini as ‘unsellable‘ and are not willing to let him go for cheap.
Reports suggested that Newcastle value Scalvini at around £30m, but it is likely that they will have to pay significantly more than that to bring him to Tyneside.
Unfortunately, it looks like a deal for the youngster will be unlikely this summer, as Atalanta boss Ivan Juric wants to build a team around Scalvini and has urged club officials against selling him as a result of that.
Scalvini was limited to just eight league appearances last season as he recovered from respective ACL and shoulder problems.
Newcastle United were offered a deal for Karim Adeyemi
After their first bid for Elanga was rejected, Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi was identified as one of the alternatives if the deal broke down.
It does not look like it will come to it, so Adeyemi will likely remain as a player Newcastle admire, rather than someone they sign.
While Adeyemi is not the top target, Newcastle World reported that the winger was actually offered to Newcastle earlier in the transfer window. There is no word on how much Dortmund were asking for him, but the deal went nowhere.
Adeyemi wants to stay at Dortmund next season, with his contract not running out until 2027.
