Arsenal receive massive boost to sign £60m attacker after Bayern transfer decision

Arsenal may have received a massive boost in the race to sign Rafael Leao.

The Portuguese winger has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal and Bayern Munich this summer, as both clubs are looking to bolster their wide areas.

After missing out on Nico Williams, who has penned a new contract with Athletic Bilbao, Bayern have made it clear that they are not in the race for Leao.

The news should come as a massive boost for the Gunners as the AC Milan winger is a concrete option, as per Football London, for them.

Leao is a key player for AC Milan and the Serie A giants are likely to demand a fee of around £60m for the versatile attacker.

The 26-year-old can not only play as a left-winger, but he can also operate as a striker, which solves two problems for Arsenal.

Leao teased Arsenal fans recently after he posted a picture of himself wearing a Thierry Henry tee on his personal Instagram.

Bayern’s Uli Hoeneß has confirmed that they are not looking to sign Leao at the moment.

“Leao? No, no, no,” said Hoeneß, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano.

“Max Eberl told me he held talks, but they weren’t fruitful and it was never an advanced topic.”

With Bayern out of the race for Leao, Arsenal should not face any difficulty in securing a mega-deal for the skilful winger.

Bayern must focus on transfers after Club World Cup exit

Bolstering the attacking options has become a top priority for Bayern following the horrific injury to Jamal Musiala.

The German winger has broken his fibula and torn many ligaments during the nasty clash with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, and he will undergo an operation that will rule him out for at least five months.

In such a scenario, it would be a disaster for the club if they fail to adequately bolster their attacking areas.

Bayern have been linked with a host of attackers in recent months, but they must narrow down their list of options and make serious offers to secure their major targets.
