Crystal Palace are unlikely to agree a swap deal which would see Ben Doak included in any move for Marc Guehi to join Liverpool.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Oliver Glasner’s side are sticking to their valuation of the 24-year-old.

While the Eagles have a long-held interest in Doak, there is a feeling that any swap deal would also have to include a significant cash sum to make it worth while.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 1 July that Palace would prefer a cash offer for Guehi rather than a swap deal for their captain this summer.

Liverpool value Doak at around £30million and hope his inclusion in a deal would cut Guehi’s asking price down to a similar fee, but the Eagles do not see value in the deal.

That is despite Brown telling Football Insider on 2 July that Palace are interested in Doak and scouts were tracking his performances on loan last season.

Crystal Palace make Guehi/Doak swap deal decision

Brown told Football Insider on 24 June that Liverpool must pay £50million for Guehi and may be willing to do so as Arne Slot will offer assurances over his playing time.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted any suggestions of a swap deal are “surprising” and unlikely as things stand.

“I’m sure a swap is something Liverpool would like to do,” he told Football Insider.

“They want to sign Guehi and Palace are interested in Doak, so on the face of it, it might make sense for the two players to switch clubs.

“It won’t be as easy as that, though, because the value isn’t there for Palace.

“Liverpool want £30million if they’re going to sell Doak, so they could say to Palace ‘we’ll give you £30million plus Doak’ and value that as a £60million deal.

“But from a Palace point of view, if they don’t think he’s worth £30million, the deal doesn’t make sense.

“Palace don’t want to come out of that deal on the losing side.

“They would rather take £50million up front because then it’s money in the bank.

“They can go out and sign somebody like Doak or another attacking target with that money.

“I think they’ve got the stronger hand because ultimately it’s Liverpool who want Guehi, so Palace can demand whatever they want for him.”

Arsenal making Eberechi Eze release clause decision

Another important player Palace are at risk of losing during the summer transfer window is Eberechi Eze, amid growing interest from Arsenal.

Football Insider revealed on 30 June that Arsenal have enquired about Eze’s availability and have held talks with his representatives over a move.

However, they are not yet sure whether to activate his lofty release clause and will assess alternative transfer targets before making a decision.

Brown told Football Insider that Arsenal are holding internal discussions about the deal, but Palace will stand firm on their £68million valuation.
