Dominic Calvert-Lewin is still searching for a club after his Everton departure.

The English forward featured 26 times in the Premier League last season, notching three goals in an injury-hit campaign.

The Blues and the ex-England star were unable to agree on a new deal, so he departed David Moyes‘ side on 30 June.

He has been linked with a free transfer to the likes of Leeds United, West Ham and most recently, Manchester United.

Calvert-Lewin will only get an ‘incentive contract’ after Everton exit

Calvert-Lewin’s injury record was a major concern for Everton, in the past three seasons, he has missed a total of 50 matches.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino believes that the ex-Toffees star will be forced to sign a heavily incentivised contract with a new club, due to his fitness issues.

Speaking on talkSPORT (7:30 am, 6 July), he said: “It’s got to be an incentive contract, it has got to be backed up with appearances, goals, matches per season.

“I just think that is the only way I would want to attempt to bring in Calvert-Lewin, I’m not questioning his ability, I’m questioning the amount of football he is going to play.

“You have to when a player has been injured so regularly.”

Everton need to move on from Calvert-Lewin

Calvert-Lewin was unlucky not to be considered one of the best number nines in Blues history. Ian Darke believes that injuries robbed him of that chance.

He notched 71 goals and 22 assists in 273 matches for the Merseysiders, but that record could have been much better had he been able to maintain his fitness.

However, the Friedkin Group cannot afford to be sentimental this summer; they need to move on from the 28-year-old for good and be ruthless with their rebuild that is on the cards.

Under no circumstances can they make a U-turn and offer Calvert-Lewin a new deal; they need to secure a striker who can take them into the new era at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees are close to completing a deal for Villarreal striker Thierno Barry, but could also make another splash in the position, if Moyes feels like the 22-year-old and Beto are not strong enough options.

Someone may offer the former Sheffield United man an incentivised deal, but the chances of it being the Blues are very slim.

The two parties have said farewell; it would take a pretty extraordinary development to see him back in L4 next season.
