Last month, we covered claims from Italy that Sunderland are chasing Armand Laurienté and Sassuolo are open to receiving offers for him this summer.
The Premier League newcomers’ interest in the 26-year-old is now reported in France by L’Equipe.
The winger managed 19 goals and six assists from 34 games last season and played a key role in helping Sassuolo return to Serie A.
The Frenchman’s performances have attracted interest from other clubs and he could end up in the Premier League, where Sunderland are keen.
Sunderland’s new sporting director, Florent Ghisolfi, would like to bring his compatriot to the Stadium of Light in this window. It’s claimed the Black Cats and the Italian club have entered into the negotiations over a move for Laurienté.
L’Equipe report they aren’t aware of the details of the negotiations but adds Régis Le Bris’ side have the ‘means to convince’ Sassuolo. In other words, Sunderland can meet the Serie A newcomers’ request for the attacker.
Last week, TuttoMercatoWeb interviewed Sassuolo sporting director Francesco Palmieri and asked whether Sunderland ‘like Laurienté’ and if Bari’s Mehdi Dorval could be a target.
Responding to that, he said: “It’s a period in which there is talk of many negotiations, we must do thoughtful things to face a very difficult championship like Serie A.”
