Report: Fresh Newcastle United plan in place as Eddie Howe makes stunning new addition

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has overseen some significant backroom changes over the last 12 months, and a new report has shown he is now slowing down.

The 47-year-old has seen many major figures come and go over the last 12 months, some he was reluctant to see leave and others he may not have been too fussed about.

After Newcastle United’s disastrous 2024 PSR deadline, it was confirmed that owners Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi left the club. The Reuben Brothers bought out their shares to confirm their exit.

Staveley is still a massive supporter of Newcastle and was even gifted tickets to the Carabao Cup final by the club in March.

Elsewhere, Paul Mitchell left Newcastle after less than 12 months in the sporting director’s role. Although it was not Eddie Howe’s decision, there was a common understanding that he and Mitchell’s relationship was icy at the beginning of his time at the club.

Howe and Mitchell did make amends in the end, but the 43-year-old never made that major signing many were hoping for.

Now, a new report has shared the work Howe is doing behind the scenes to improve both his coaching and medical staff.

Newcastle United make specialised positions as Eddie Howe welcomes a new staff member

Howe is commonly known to be a workaholic, someone who wants to know the finest details and leave no stone unturned before the game.

The Newcastle manager is a first-in, last-out type of person who builds great relationships with his players and coaching staff. Howe and assistant manager Jason Tindall have been inseparable since they started off at Bournemouth in League Two.

While Howe has stuck with a core coaching group throughout his managerial career, there have been some significant changes at Newcastle, and those changes and new additions are not stopping.

According to The Athletic, Newcastle are close to appointing Martin Mark as their set-piece coach. The report states that the Magpies have reviewed numerous candidates over the past few months in their search for another specialist coach to join Howe’s staff at Newcastle.

In addition to his arrival, Newcastle have been creating new ‘specialised’ positions across multiple departments, including the first-team coaching set-up.

For example, Kieran Taylor is a senior analyst for set pieces and is highly regarded. Elsewhere, Tindall handled set-piece coaching but will now take other responsibilities upon Mark’s arrival. The 31-year-old impressed at FC Midtjylland since taking that coaching role in 2022 and has earned himself a move to the North East.

Jason Tindall relies on Eddie Howe at Newcastle United

While Howe is the man who faces the media, stays long hours and receives high praise from the fans and the media, Tindall deserves his flowers equally.

Tindall takes a lot of the weight off of Howe by being the person who makes complaints to the fourth officials or gets into a war of words with the opposing staff. The latter was most evident when Newcastle were involved in a brawl with Aston Villa – a brawl instigated by Tindall.

Tindall took the reins as caretaker manager when Howe was hospitalised with pneumonia, and it was clear that he was missing his close partner. While he won two of his three games in charge, it never looked like Tindall was fully comfortable with the press or being the main man in the dugout.

However, when Howe came back, the pair worked together to get the Magpies back into the Champions League, just like they were destined to do before Howe went away.

Tindall is now back in his assistant’s role to Howe, with the Newcastle players returning for pre-season. He will have new responsibilities in the 2025/26 campaign, but he will surely be ready for them.
