Manchester United could reportedly bag an ex-Manchester City star as part of a Jadon Sancho swap deal this summer. The winger is expected to leave United, having spent the last 18 months on loan away from the club.
Sancho had enjoyed a relatively successful stint at Chelsea last term, with the Englishman having been part of the squad that won the Conference League and qualified for the Champions League. Chelsea did have a £25million obligation to buy, but the Blues instead paid a £5m penalty to send him back to United.
It’s left Sancho scratching around a little bit, given he doesn’t appear to be part of Ruben Amorim’s plans. It’s been reported by Flashscore that Juventus have emerged as a potential candidate, but the Old Lady have been put off by Sancho’s staggering wage demands.
There have been rumours that Sancho could be willing to take a pay cut in order to push forward with a move away from United. The Serie A outfit are said to have set £160,000 per week as their upper limit - a significant step down from his current £300,000 per week salary.
In order to save a few pennies, it’s also claimed that Juventus could include players as part of a swap deal with United. Among the names mooted as potential makeweights is Douglas Luiz, who spent time on the books of United’s rivals, City.
Luiz, who joined Juventus from Aston Villa last summer, hasn’t settled in Italy and is already being touted with a move away. He could prove appealing to United, given he boasts ready-made Premier League experience and would be strengthening a weak spot for Amorim in midfield.
There is a desire to get things sorted quickly, given that Sancho isn’t joining the first batch of United players coming back for pre-season. Instead, Sancho is looking to resolve his future ahead of what will likely prove a crucial next step in his career.
It was initially reported that United had slapped a £25m price tag on Sancho, but given the want for a clean break from both sides, it’s now suggested an offer between £15m and £20m could tempt the Premier League outfit. United have already made one attacking addition in Matheus Cunha, with Bryan Mbeumo and a striker expected to join before the September 1 deadline.
