Luis Diaz sparks controversy as Liverpool star 'appears at event & dances with influencers'…

Liverpool forward Luis Diaz has sparked controversy after being seen dancing with influencers instead of attending Diogo Jota's funeral.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Several members of the Reds’ squad, including club captain Virgil van Dijk and head coach Arne Slot, were present as Jota was laid to rest at an emotional ceremony in Gondomar, Portugal. He lost his life alongside brother Andre Silva in a car accident on July 3.

Messages of condolence have flooded in from across the planet, with the Jota family still coming to terms with tragic events. Prominent figures in the football community jetted into Portugal to pay their last respects to Jota and his brother.

Colombia international Diaz did not form part of that group. Instead, the 28-year-old was in his homeland fulfilling commercial commitments with sponsors and influencers, according to Marca - with videos being posted on social media showing the player dancing and laughing that have attracted criticism.

DIAZ'S TRIBUTE TO JOTA

Diaz has even been questioned by those in his native Colombia, with Jota considered to have been a close friend. The Portuguese held up a Diaz jersey when scoring for Liverpool after seeing his team-mate forced to take a break following the kidnapping of his father.

While Diaz did not attend Jota’s funeral, he did post after learning of the 28-year-old’s death: "I have no words... It hurts in my soul. Not just for what he was on the pitch, but for the person he was off of it. There are gestures that one never forgets, and Diogo had one with me that will accompany me all my life. My hug goes out to Rute, his three children and his family. Rest in peace, Diogo and Andre."
